Research

My ongoing research consists of two primary threads:

Probing for compositional information in NLP sentence representations

The first thread of research leverages linguistic insights together with analysis methodology from cognitive neuroscience in order to test for compositional meaning information in sentence-level vector representations produced by NLP models. The goal of this work is to increase transparency of these vector representations, in order to guide toward compositionally aware systems.

Computational psycholinguistic modeling drawing on NLP tools

The second thread of research employs computational cognitive modeling, drawing on psycholinguistic theories as well as computational tools from natural language processing (NLP), to investigate mechanisms underlying human sentence comprehension in real time. My current primary focus is on modeling neural responses to semantic role reversal anomalies.

More detail on how my work bridges linguistics and computation.
